Industrial Services to acquire Venture Metals’ stock |

United States | Kentucky-based scrap processor Industrial Services of America has signed a deal to buy the inventory of Venture Metals for more than US$ 8.8 million. The purchase, which includes stainless steel and high-temperature alloys, was funded through an existing line of credit, according to a recent filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.
The two parties, both of which are headquartered in Louisville, are expected to reach a deal shortly for the remainder of the fixed assets.

The European association of PVC recyclers, EUPVcycle, has established its own facility at Bonn in Germany. The aim of this dedicated plant is to process Europe’s mixed hard and soft PVC from the post-consumer waste stream. Said to be the first of its kind in Australia, a specialised cathode ray tube (CRT) recycling facility is scheduled to open in March at Gepps Cross in South Australia. United States / Canada | The US Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) has developed a new, free-of-charge tool to be used in the recycling industry’s efforts to fight material theft. ScrapTheftAlert.com is an Internet-based system that will allow law enforcement to alert US and Canadian recyclers of reported stolen material. The US-based Coca-Cola Company and plastics recycler United Resource Recovery (URRC) of Spartanburg, North Carolina, have opened a new US$ 60 million, 9300-square-metre ‘bottle-to-bottle’ recycling facility. The state-of-the-art plant, said to be the largest of its kind in the world, will produce annually around 45.5 million kg of food-grade recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET), or the equivalent of some 2 billion plastic Coke bottles. ... more

At the recent Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, USA, mobile phone manufacturer Motorola introduced its new Moto W233 Renew phone - billed not only as ‘the world’s first mobile phone made using plastics comprised of recycled water bottles’ but also as the world's first carbon-neutral phone.
