Dear Michele Cranwell,

What can you do to reduce unwanted junk/direct mail?

The Catalogue Sales trade association is: Direct Marketing Assn., Inc. 11 West 42 St, NY, NY 10036, 212-768-7277. The Contact person is Chester Dalzell at ext. 425. Ask what he currently recommends. What he used to recommend was:
Write to the Mail Preference Service at PO Box 9008, Farmingdale, NY 11735 and/or call them at 212-768-7277 askingg that your name and address by deleted from the organization s members lists.

This however, only stops it temporarilly, as your name is again added by another list. Ask Dalzell what he recommends for this case.

I also commend to you the article about how/with what justification to sue direct mail companies. The news write-up of this appears in the Wall Street Journal of Oct 13, 1995, page B1.

In a nutshell, let me give the justification by quoting from the article, he is suing U.S. News World Report, claiming it broke the law when it sold his name and address to another magazine.
