Dear Jerome Friedman,

In general, Federal agencies do not give grants to for-profit companies, unless there is a unique reason to do so. That said, there are R D grants given out for projects like yours by the following:

Dept. of Commerce, Business Development Assistance Program. Contact: David McIlwaine, Economic Development Administration, 202-377-5265.

Environmental Technology Initiative, US EPA, Contact: Kenneth Jewett, 202-260-2685.

The NICE3 Grants Initiative of the U.S. Dept. of Energy is a possibility unless they have changed their eligibility to exclude for-profits. Contact your local Federal Dept. of Energy office.
