Dear Brandon Miessner,
There are many sources to choose from to demonstrate to a class the social/business impacts of recycling. Let me list a few that should be easy to obtain:
1. The Next Efficiency Revolution: Creating a Sustainable Materials Economy by John E. Young and Aaron Sachs, WorldWatch Paper 121, 9/94, from WorldWatch Institute (202) 452-1999. (They have other relevant papers as well).
2. Recycling for Profit: The New Green Business Frontier by David Biddle in Harvard Business Review, 11-12/93.
3. War on Waste by Louis Blumberg and Robert Gottleib (Island Press, 1989).
4. Value Added to Recyclable Materials in the Northeast by Roy F. Weston, Inc. for the Northeast Recycling Council, Brattleboro, VT (802-254-3636).
5. Value added studies (recycling to the economy) by the state of Massachusetts, DEP, 7/92; by King County Washington DNR, 5/96; by the City of Philadelphia in 1995.
