Dear K. Cordle,
Annual information varies. The amount of waste that the US generates continues to rise, as does the percentage that we recycle.
For most recent information: in 1994 the US recycled/composted 24% of 209 million tons of municipal solid waste, up from 21% of 206 million tons in 1993. Annual MSW generation is expected to increase to 223 million tons in the year 2000 of which 25-35% is anticipated to be covered using the most likely scenarios.
