Dear Liz Wright,
You can reuse/recycle wood pallets! There are businesses that do this, there are jobs being created to do this. In fact, the Institute for Local Self Reliance (tel: 202-232-4108) has recently published profiles of pallet recycling programs at many companies around the country who in aggregate handled about 134.7 million pallets in 1994. The publication is Sustaining Businesses Jobs Through Pallet Repair Reuse and if you
seriously want to start something at your firm, you ought to read it. I believe that another reader/responder to this list, Roger Guttentag has also written on the subject. His article Making recovery pallet-able appeared in the 11/94 issue of Resource Recycling and is also a must read . Pallets made of plastic and of corrugated cardboard are making inraods into the market too, and this is documented in an article in a 1/96 issue of Recycling Today.
Your question wasn t specific enough for me to say more.
