Dear Ron Colbert,

I'm not certain what it is that you are asking
about tire pyrolysis. Yes, it is done to obtain
carbon black, low grade fuel, etc. Some of the
firms doing it recently are Hydrocarbon Research Inc, tel: 609-243-8700; Hydrocarbon Technology, Inc., tel: 609-394-3102 both in NJ.
There is also a place doing it in Kamloops, British Columbia, called Unique Tire.

The concern with tire pyrolysis is the economics of it.
As recently as 2/97 articles in Tire Business were
stating that it was economically not profitable.

Another source on markets is HiChem Corp of Chicago, IL
who was given a grant by US EPA Region 5 to develop a process and analyze its markets and business prospects.
HiChem also aimed to show the proportionality of the byproducts carbon black and plasticizers and low grade oil. Their tel # is 312-871-2289. Martin Carrera and V. Kulkarni were associated with this project.
