Dear Tom,
There is no reason why wire hangers cannot be recycled. They are recyclable. However, many collection programs reject them, probably for obscure reasons of their own. Metal recyclers as in scrap yards have not shunned large quantities of metal (wire) hangers. My suspicion is that you need either a scrap yard or a wire recycler, rather than a municipal recycling program that may just be unfamiliar with how to get rid of their collected metal nonpackaging.
