Dear Cynthia,

There are recyclers and composters serving the Michigan area who will write contracts with commercial firms. Not being in Michigan, but serving another region, I can just give you instances of this already happening in Michigan, and to point you in the direction of your State Recycling Office and of the EPA Region serving Michigan, which also has a solid waste/recycling program:

Michigan composting firms (for food waste if they have included it):

Jervis B. Webb Co, Framington Hills, MI
Averill Recycling, Flint
JWI, Holland
Bandit Industries, Remus
Recycling Systems, Inc., Winn
Ferro Tech, Wyandotte

Michigan Dept. of Natural Resources, Resource Recovery Section, PO Box 30028, Lansing, MI 48909

Paul Ruesch, US EPA Region 5, 312-886-7598
