Dear Christopher,
Does anyone own the recycling logo? I don't think so. I have never heard of any royalties ever being paid to anyone. It is sort of like the corss. Does the church own the cross, or some pagan religion from which the church 'borrowed' it? It's a generic symbol known for what it is. I can tell you only that the Society of the Plastics Industry 'invented' the numeric coding system within 3 chasing arrows for identifying plastics. They may 'own' that system, but I still have never heard of any royalties or acknowledgement of this needing to be made.
