Subject: Re: Textiles recycling

June 22, 1999

Recently some recycling programs have begun curbside collection of recycling (e.g. Philadelphia, Cape May County, NJ) but more typically textiles are recycled by specific firms picking up huge lots from secondhand stores that have sorted what they can sell and not sell from what is donated, or from industrial sources, and also from dropoff programs for consumers at e.g. transfer stations or recycling stations. Textiles are typically recycled into industrial wiping cloths, new clothing, or fabric for other uses such as furniture cove4rings. Most textile recycling is carried on overseas and so most textiles recycled in the US wind up in third world countries.
