Dear Julie Hallal,

There are no federal requirements, and rarely, state requirements mandating that a single type of business recycle. Many do recycle, according to their trade assn (see the magazine Restaurants Institutions July 1, 1997, p. 76+). Some, but not many states require commercial firms to recycle, or make it impossible to not do so without requiring it by law. NJ is one state to look at for commercial legislation. So is RI.
