To whom it it may concern!
Hi! I am a college student in China. I am currently taking an internship at Discovering investment , Shanghai. Our company focuses on global commodity investment. I am asked to do a project on analyzing the lead acid battery recycling market in US ,but I cannot get a big picture of the whole battery recycling industry in US based on the information I gathered from the Internet. Would you kindly shed some light on my following concerns? Thank you!
Does BCI control the national lead battery recycling program?
Are there any other organizations or associations which are responsible for collecting batteries?Say, Association of Battery Recyclers ,What role do they play in the lead battery recycling loop?
According to the law proposed by BCI, retailers are obliged to collect used lead acid batteries from customers when they try to sell new ones to customers. I also heard there is a deposit-refund mechanism in play, Do all battery retailers abide by it? How does it work when someone buys a new battery online such as atbatt.com? Will he have to mail a used battery to the online retailer in order to get his deposit back? How many batteries are collected in retailer stores, auto wreckers, online retailers respectively each year?
It seems that the customer have a variety of ways to dispose of used batteries ,firstly through non-profit organizations. Whats the proportion of SSLAs consumed in secondary lead smelters which come from non-profit recycling programs?
Citizens can also recycle lead acid battery with the help of some professional recycling companies such as Battery Solutions. How many batteries do all of the lead smelters in US collect from these companies annually?
How are batteries collected by lead scrap dealers, scrap yards? How many batteries do they collect every year?
Will a lead smelter send a truck to collect motive and stationary lead batteries himself? Whats the proportion of this source?
Are there any other sources from which lead smelter of battery manufacturers can collect ULABs that are not mentioned above? Is there some cooperation between these participants? I mean, will battery manufacturers collect ULABs from scrap yards?
Its very kind of you if you can help offer me any white paper, reports,or documents concerning these matters. Material with statistical numbers will be preferred. Everything which help us understand the lead acid battery recycling network is helpful.
Thank you very much!
